Destination Bridal Sessions | Boston Wedding Photography

Just manifesting what I’d like to be doing right now, taking wedding photos in Paris rather than blogging - Photo composite.

Take off on an adventure with Ryan Richardson Photography with a destination bridal session. Whether you want to experience the life of a globe-trotting supermodel or just want to revisit a favorite spot for all the old sentimental reasons - destination bridal sessions are a unique option to let you get outside the box.

A destination bridal session can be a wonderful surprise for a special vacation, and it can help you to create some unique and lasting memories. Destination sessions are typically full-day events where there’s more time to get situated and explore the available space (and frankly make the most out of the travel costs). This is the option to get the amazing bridal photos of your dreams without being constrained by all of the compromises that you need to make on your wedding day.

How do you make your destination bridal session successful?

Do your research! One downside of destination bridals is that your photographer won’t have a lot of good location suggestions in their back pockets, so you’re going to do a lot more of the planning and preparations. Thankfully the internet offers some great options - see what local photographers are shooting! Search for the name of your destination and “bridal” or other popular hashtags on Instagram and let the inspiration flow in. You also want to be sure that you’re not just getting photos you could take in your proverbial backyard.

Lean into your theme. If you’re going to fly across the world for some photos, be inspired by your destination for your wardrobe and approach. Don’t be afraid to indulge in local traditions and attractions and get a little cliche with it. Sure there are a thousand pictures of couples kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower, but it’s a lot more meaningful when it’s a picture of you.

Enjoy your trip! While I fully support the idea of crossing the globe purely for the flex on Instagram, it’s much better to take the time to enjoy yourself instead of limiting yourself to the whirlwind tour you can make with your photographer. Get some excursions for the two of you to have fun together, soak in the culture and local flavor.

The real challenge can be traveling with your bridal attire - how do you get that big, beautiful gown across the globe? If you’re flying you’ll want to contact your airline to see if they have special provisions for traveling with large, delicate items. Some dresses and garment bags handle tough travel a little better if you pack them carefully and can fit into carry-on requirements (just be sure to triple check the size and weight requirements). If your dress is especially delicate or elaborate (or you’re just feeling extra), you can get your dress its own ticket so it will never leave your sight (does an inanimate object get its own carry on?). However you get your dress onto a plane, bring a portable steamer (and the right adapter) to freshen it up.
