What You Need to Know About Wedding Photography

Many couples book a wedding photographer 12-18 months in advance, often right after securing their venue (especially for popular dates in the spring and fall throughout New England).
Working on a shorter timeline? Don’t panic, if I am already booked I’ve got a great referral network.

Pricing will depend on experience, coverage, and a few other factors but a lot of couples planning a wedding experience sticker shock when they get a price sheet. For full wedding day coverage in New England, most couples should expect to spend between $3,000 to $8,000 for an experienced wedding photographer.

It’s not just about editing style, picking the best wedding photographer for your day is about trust, comfort, personality (and budget). Your photographer is going to be someone you’re working with even after the wedding day is done and they’ll be right at your side for some of the most intimate and emotional moments in your life.
Look for:
Consistent galleries, not just Instagram highlights
Experience in different lighting and weather situations. Weather in New England can be unpredictable!
A personality that helps you feel relaxed
Communication that is easy and clear

The amount of coverage depends on your priorities and the pace of the wedding day. I’ve found that a lot of weddings on Cape Cod, and throughout Massachusetts, fit around 8 hours of coverage to comfortably capture getting ready, the first look, ceremony, family photos, and the best parts of the reception.
Smaller events or elopements may need only 2-6 hours, while larger events that span multiple locations (or the Catholic gap) may need 10 hours or more.
A great Cape photographer can help you build a timeline that balances getting the perfect shots with you actually enjoying your wedding day.
