in the time of COVID

2020 has been an immensely difficult year for both the world and the wedding industry. In early April, your favorite Boston wedding photographer, made the decision to scuttle the 2020 season and refund the deposits of all couples that had booked for 2020 (or to reschedule). We were in a privileged position to be able to do this and it was the right decision in spite of how hard it was for our couples, who had been looking forward to their weddings whether they were traditional celebrations or a more relaxed chance to kick off their shoes and party with the people closest to them.

As New England works to get through the worst of the crisis, many are looking to the future to new plans and possibilities for weddings and events. Ryan Richardson Photography, your favorite Boston wedding photographer, is also looking to get started finding the silver linings amidst all of these clouds, but we’re trying to do so with safety in mind.

So what is our plan for safe operations?

1) Keep Our Distance: During all shoots we will endeavor to adhere to social distancing guidelines. While this has meant an adjustment in how we instruct our clients through posing, with a few tweaks to our approach it’s easy enough to maintain 10’ of distance.

2) Outdoor Adventures: Guidelines suggest that indoor environments can increase the risk of transmission, so with the exception of elopements, we are moving all of our sessions to outdoor sessions. This has obviously had the biggest impact on our boudoir business, but being COVID free is the sexiest look of all.

3) Proper Protection: During sessions, myself and anyone working for me will be masked. With our couples for engagement or bridal sessions we encourage the use of a mask but understand that might not always be desirable or feasible. At events, we reserve the right to end coverage if the environment becomes unsafe due to a failure to follow suggested guidelines.

4) Flexibility: We’re adding more flexibility to our schedule, so if you need to change the date of a shoot or event, there’s no penalty or loss of deposit (though be aware dates are reserved on a first come, first served basis). If we are unable to accommodate a change in date, Ryan Richardson Photography can either provide an associate photographer so you’ll get a great professional with our editing or we can work on returning a deposit.

5) Keep Updated: We of course work closely with other photographers in the industry to understand best practices going forward in consultation with health officials. We’re also going to be in regular touch with our clients to make sure you know what’s happening and how we can all mitigate any risks and make sure you have a wonderful celebration.

What are you doing to make your celebrations safer? Have you rescheduled your event or changed it into something brand new?
