Changes Pt. 1 - New England Wedding Photography Travel Fees

How much will it cost to get Ryan Richardson Photography to my wedding?

This question, or something like it, is usually tacked on to every inquiry that passes through my inbox. It's probably second only to people asking how I got so talented and charming (and would I like to shoot their cute DIY backyard wedding for free). Although I left this question off my article "5 Questions For Your Wedding Photographer"), it's a great question to put in front of any wedding photographer.

For 2014, we're going to be eliminating most of our travel fees to make it much easier to truly be a New England Wedding Photographer (rather than merely a Boston wedding photographer, Cape Cod wedding photographer or Rhode Island wedding photographer). So whether you're tying the knot in Nashua or getting married in Newport, there won't be any surprise fees for mileage (mostly).

Preparing For Your Engagement Session

An engagement session tells the story of a special milestone in your relationship, but it's not all about chemistry.

As part of our Fall promotions, we're rolling out a great deal on engagement sessions with our partnerthe Knot.

What is an engagement session with Ryan Richardson Photography?

It's part portrait shoot, part fashion show with a couple of ice breakers and bad jokes thrown into the mix. Engagement images make great keepsakes and illustrations for wedding guest books or save the date cards.

Apart from the chemistry between two people, there are two important factors to getting the most out of your engagment session: presentation and location.

Making A List: Popular Wedding Questions

What questions should you ask your wedding photographer? If you type that into your search engine, you'll likely find hundreds of thousands of answers. They're everywhere from theKnot to Yahoo answers, infecting the internet like cute pictures of cats.

Like the aforementioned cats, most of these lists are derivative. They all encourage you to ask about RAW processing and photojournalism, throwing around technical words and phrases like someone's high school term paper. As a professional meeting-taker I've spoken with a lot of brides who have simply slid over a list of questions for me to go over line by line while their eyes glaze over.

The problem is that the answers don't often have any context. While photography has become more accessible in the past 150 years, most people just don't care enough to read up on the finer technical aspects. These questions can only help you find the right photographer if you know why you're asking them.

So today, in the interest of being servicey, I've compiled a top ten list of wedding photography questions, my answers and why you should be asking them. After this, I will also take the five worst questions and mock them.
