To the Backyard: The Heart of a Wedding
After five years of wedding photography, I've been to all kinds of venues; documenting events from Boston to Providence and from Provincetown to Northampton. Some have been nearly palatial, while others have been a little more run down or rustic but five years ago Ryan Richardson Photography started with me standing in some stranger’s backyard.
The house was a rambling building, slowly built up over the years piece by piece in that particular New England style. After months of having gorged myself on pictures and dreams of platinum weddings, I stumbled. How could something in a backyard launch my new career? What I found on the other side of that weathered gray fence would surprise me.
Top Three Wedding Songs of 2012: A Retrospective
Normally at the end of the year, we like to look back at all of our wonderful Massachusetts Wedding Photography from the season and just pick out a few favorites and talk about them. This year, we're going to mix it up and talk about the music (so as not to invoke the ire of any clients who might feel slighted because it's not their dress or cake that made the entirely arbitrary cut, also I feel like punting this and just posting Youtube links). We regretted not taking the pitchfork as we trod through the resting fields in Southeastern Massachusetts to do a bridal send-up of "American Gothic" against an old farm house. I told myself later that the window just wasn't right and that my subjects, Jill and Ian, were not the kind of people that could pull off the personas of stern-faced mid-Western farmers.
Phoebe and Mike: Massachusetts Engagement Photography
As Hurricane Sandy loomed over the East Coast, we met up with Phoebe and Mike as part of our engagement marathon at Bird Park in Walpole Massachusetts in late October. The couple met while attending school together at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island.
